Abstract Title:Serial neuroimaging of brain growth and development in very preterm infants receiving tailored neuropromotive support in the NICU. Protocol for a prospective cohort study
Biography:
Dr. Carmina Erdei, MD is a highly accomplished physician with triple board certification in Pediatrics, Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, and Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics. She serves as a faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and is the Medical Director of the Growth and Development Unit—a specialized subunit of the NICU dedicated to providing expert neurorehabilitative care for infants at the highest risk of neurodevelopmental challenges, supporting their transition to home.
Dr. Erdei’s research is centered on improving outcomes for high-risk infants by optimizing the NICU neurosensory environment within a family-centered developmental care framework. In addition to her clinical and research roles, she is an Instructor in Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, where she contributes to the training and mentorship of future pediatric and neonatal specialists.
Research Interest:
Dr. Carmina Erdei’s research interests focus on neurodevelopmental outcomes of high-risk infants, with particular emphasis on optimizing the NICU neurosensory environment to support brain development and long-term well-being. She is committed to advancing family-centered developmental care models that integrate parents as active partners in the neonatal care process. Her work explores how early neurorehabilitative interventions, environmental modifications, and interdisciplinary approaches can reduce developmental risks and improve the transition from NICU to home. Additionally, she is interested in developing evidence-based protocols that promote resilience and healthy growth in medically complex infants.
