Abstract Title:The importance of nutrigenetics and epigenetics in childhood allergy

Biography:

Associate Professor Gülsen Meral is a distinguished pediatrician, educator, and researcher with a diverse academic and professional portfolio. She graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpa?a School of Medicine in 1994 and became a specialist in pediatrics in 2001. Over her career, she has served as a specialist, deputy chief physician, and chief physician at various hospitals, and from 2019 to 2021, she was the Rector’s Advisor at the Northern Cyprus ITU.

Dr. Meral holds a Ph.D. in Medical Genetics and a Master’s Degree in Hospital Management, alongside a unique academic background in Turkish language and literature. She is also an Acupuncture instructor and has taught Nutrigenetics and child development at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Her scientific contributions include numerous national and international publications, editorial board service, and reviewer roles for reputable journals.

As the Founder of the Nutrigenetics and Epigenetics Association, she has been at the forefront of advancing knowledge in these fields. She has presided over the first and second International Epigenetic Congress and continues to organize and lead the Epigenetic Coaching Program, providing CPD-certified training to health professionals worldwide in Nutrigenetic and Epigenetic Counselling.

Beyond her medical achievements, Dr. Meral is an accomplished poet, with five published poetry books, and an active member of organizations such as the Green Crescent, Rumelia Association, Istanbul Acupuncture Association, and the International Society of Nutrigenetics & Nutrigenomics. She remains dedicated to research, training, and promoting holistic health through science, education, and the arts.

Associate Professor Gülsen Meral’s research interests span pediatrics, medical genetics, nutrigenetics, and epigenetics, with a focus on understanding the genetic and environmental factors that influence child development and long-term health. She is particularly passionate about integrating nutritional genomics and lifestyle medicine into preventive healthcare strategies, aiming to provide personalized interventions that improve patient outcomes. Her work also explores the role of epigenetic mechanisms in disease prevention and wellness promotion, bridging clinical practice, education, and coaching for health professionals worldwide. In addition, she is committed to advancing research in acupuncture, integrative medicine, and holistic health approaches, reflecting her belief in combining scientific evidence with personalized care to optimize health across the lifespan.
